Description
Offered is apair of antique hand carved wood corbel brackets
that were salvaged from a mansion built in
1874
located about 8 miles from Boston, Mass.
True Victorian
.
I asked a craftsman to examine the wood to see if he could identify it. Since it is a very hard and very heavy wood, he said it could be mahogany, walnut or cherry, all of which were used in the 1870s in wealthy homes.
These are obviously hand carved and were meant to be identical though you will see from the photos there are slight variations in color and design and one weighs slightly less than the other one. Measurements are approximate: 22" at highest point; 6" at widest point; 3-3/4" at deepest point; weight of each approx. 6-1/2 lbs.
Being sold "as is" in antique salvage condition. Please examine photos closely for evidence of previous paint, nail holes, and chips. I consider these to be in amazing condition considering their age.
I am selling a different pair of antique corbels salvaged from the same 1874 home in a separate auction.
FINAL SALE so please ask questions prior to purchase. Thank you for looking and please check out my other auctions!
