This is a brand new 115 Volt Compressor Start Relay for the Bunn Ultra-2 machine with the NT-2168GK compressor.  This is designed for the 115VAC Ultra-2 HP machine.  Make sure to check the label on your compressor to ensure you are ordering the correct part -- there have been four different compressor types used in the Ultra-2 to date.  If your compressor has a label with "NT-2168GK" on it, this is the correct relay (if the label reads T-2168 it is a different compressor and requires a different start relay which we also sell on ebay).  This is the relay for the newest Ultra-2 machine.  Again, this wil work only on an compressor with a  label that reads
NT2168GK
.
A relay is an electrical switch. Essentially this type of compressor start relay allows the main control board (computer) of the Ultra-2 machine to send power to the "start" windings on the compressor, and after a short period, the relay turns off power to the start windings and switches all power over to the "run" windings. You could almost think of it like a transmission -- the motor that drives the pump inside the compressor has two sets of electrical windings. To help overcome the inertia of being idle, when started the motor is not moing and this relay sends power to both the run and the start windings kind of like first gear to help get over the inertia of non-movement. After the relay heats up a bit, it automatically switches power over solely to the run windings.
The actual replacement of this part is relatively easy, but the troubleshooting needed to determine the need to replace is intermediate and may require a repair technician with electrical and refrigerant systems experience (and ideally the use of a compressor tester). If your compressor fails to start, after checking and confirming all control circuits are OK this relay and the start capacitor would be the next likely culprits.
