    Description

Peabody Museum Replica NETSUKE DAIKON (RADISH), Hand Carved Resin, w/Wood Stand
This rare and unusual Netsuke replica was purchased 40 years ago in the late 1970’s and is now retired. It comes from the Peabody Essex Museum in Massachusetts and is made of hand carved resin. The figure depicts a Daikon (Radish) and has an entertainer celebrating with his rattle carved into the top of the Netuke. The Netsuke is approximately 2 3/4" long, 1 1/4” wide and 3/4" tall. It rests upon its own wooden stand and is signed with the letters “PEN”.
The traditional Japanese kimonos did not have pockets, and Netsuke were devised as a means to secure pouches to carry personal items. While created as a practical devise to fill a need for over 300 years, Netsukes evolved into a unique form of miniature sculptures.
