Red Lacquer Monkey Baboon Figurine Netsuke ? Feng Shui ? Wood ? Nice!
First, let me say I know absolutely nothing about netsuke figurines but up for auction is a really nice looking monkey or baboon that I believe is red lacquer on top of wood, but don't know for sure.  It does feel somewhat heavy. Could this be made of redwood?  And I don't know if this is actually a netsuke piece.  It measures about 2 1/4" tall, 2 1/4" long and 1 1/2" wide.  I would say this is in very good condition with no issues except 1 tiny nick near the base on the left side to the left of the 3 balls or 3 grapes or 3 cherries or are they nuts? (see photo).  This is really well carved piece with lots of detail and it appears to show a monkey in a tub or basin with fruit spilling over.  I'm sure some of you Ebayers know what this is and what the monkey is doing.  I don't know where this is made, but I would guess possibly Japan.
